Tech For Good - Smart Start

It’s client love time, where we highlight one of our incredible clients: what they do, why we’re excited to partner with them, the good they’re putting into the world, and what we're working on together!

Where?

Smart Start Canada is part of the global Smart Start brand, founded in 1992 in Irving, Texas. They operate in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. Smart Start Canada is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, with an additional office in Montreal.

What Do They Do?

Smart Start is a leading provider of ignition interlock devices and alcohol-monitoring solutions, serving the B2C offender market across the country. Their devices have recorded over a billion alcohol-free starts and have prevented 11 million engine starts where alcohol was present on the driver’s breath.

As an alternative to incarceration and license suspension, their Ignition Interlocks are saving lives.

Our Partnership Origin Story

We were introduced to the leadership team through one of our incredible clients; proof that word of mouth is the best kind of endorsement! Knowing we had expanded to Alberta, they saw the perfect opportunity to connect us with a company rooted in Edmonton. From the start, it was clear that our values and vision aligned. Even better, they were looking for a specific, highly niche leadership skillset that made this partnership a natural fit.

What We're Working On!

We’re seeking a General Manager, Canada to own revenue growth, profitability, and Canadian market expansion while ensuring operational excellence and regulatory compliance. As the trusted business partner between Canadian operations and executive leadership in Grapevine, TX, the GM will be responsible for ensuring alignment with corporate and regional strategic goals. This role requires a confident, decisive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment!

Our ideal candidate has proven experience managing all aspects of a P&L across Canada, ideally within a $20M–$50M revenue range, and a track record of driving sustainable sales growth. They have led customer service teams to create a standout customer experience and have strong expertise in governmental affairs, particularly in the transportation sector. With experience expanding networks in the B2C space, they bring excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

We’re open to candidates in Alberta. If this sounds like you or someone you know, Carly@artemiscanada.com would love to hear from you!
