Artemis Out West

Our mission to bring the best leadership talent to Canada’s tech ecosystem has brought us West! You may remember that over the last year our teammates Ashley and Carly have launched Artemis in BC & Alberta. Last week they landed in Vancouver to connect with founders and  investors at INNOVATEwest - and they were excited to see all of the action in West Coast tech. 

The conference brought together tech leaders, investors and ecosystem partners for networking and discussions.  We learned about the unique challenges and advantages of scaling in Canada, and heard about how to navigate diverse funding avenues. And of course, everyone was talking about what is best and next in AI. 

Of particular interest, we heard founders discuss the challenges of hiring leaders who have the appetite for chaotic world of resource-constrained start-ups, and the experience and skill to execute effectively. It is no surprise that, from coast to coast and in all market conditions, even the most experienced founders list leadership hiring as both critical and exceptionally hard. 

On top of it all, Budget 2024 was released on day one of the conference. As you can well imagine, the changes to the capital gains tax math sparked compelling conversations over lunch and added some spice to conversations moderated by the likes of BetaKit’s Doug Soultys. 

We left Vancouver with new connections, new learnings, and a lot to follow up on. In summary: we’ll be back next year. In the meantime, if you’re in Alberta or Western Canada, Ashley and Carly would love to connect with you!
